- Trent examines cold cases in a rural archive and finds patterns suggesting that several solved murders were actually committed by different perpetrators but his supervisor dismisses the findings as coincidental.
- When a methodical detective investigates the drowning of a young prosecutor, he realizes the victim had been collecting evidence about corruption within his own precinct and left behind encrypted files.
